The most groundbreaking car in the history of the brand. The first one was drawn by the controversial Chris Bangle who, when handing over the project, knew perfectly well that people were not ready for this car yet. 21 years have passed and only now are we all slowly becoming convinced of the unique line. Objectively speaking, the E65 was years ahead of its time. The list of innovations introduced by this car is longer than the list of promises of the current ruling party. The greatest success was definitely the iDrive system, which survived for the next 20 years in a slightly modernized form, and the competition never managed to imitate it despite many attempts. When writing about E65, I must honestly admit that in my mind’s eye I see a certain customer who, in front of BMW Welt, decided to massacre his E65, probably with a pickaxe, if I remember correctly (I can’t find this video). In Poland, E65 was also hated for its defects and failure rate. I can’t agree with this, I don’t think this car is faulty and they are most often improperly serviced. And they require a lot of service.
To be honest, it must be admitted that the E65 is an armored “double wagon” that will always get you home. For years, we have been observing moribund corpses in our market, which continue to roll on the roads and continue to roll for a while, I suspect that they will even take themselves to the scrapyard. After all, the orchestra on the Titanic played until the end.
I will get to the point, i.e. the success achieved by the previous E38 model, the prices of which skyrocketed three years ago and today it is difficult to even determine the average price level, although respectable examples with low mileage range around PLN 100,000 and successfully find buyers. The E65 has the same status as the previously described E60, which means many of these 20-year-old cars are still successfully used as everyday cars. And more and more people are convinced of their appearance. Nowadays, finding a V12 in a long car is extremely difficult and we must be aware that we will be practically close to the hundred thousand Polish zlotys. So, for sure, in 3-4 years the E65 will start to become a YougTimer, the question is whether by then it will gather as many fans of the model as the E38?
